ANOTHER FINE OFFERING FROM G.B. TATE & SONS: Here is one of the most famous and exceptional works of art history... the famed "Hundre Guilder Print" of Rembrandt. The Hundred Guilder Print was so nick-named as a result of the unusually high price paid for it at auction in that era. His prints were executed generally as a means for the masses to obtain original works by the artist, and normally fetched low sums. For an etching to bring a hundred guilders was unheard of in the artist's day.
This is a superb rich impression from the first Baillie edition, circa 1775, but prior to the addition of the drypoint found in later impressions, and prior to the cutting of the plate. According to Baillie's own documentation, the total number of impressions was limited to only ten. Nowell-Eusticke refers to impressions of this first Baillie state as "very fine".
CONDITION: This piece was recently cleaned and restored by the Pennsylvania Conservation Laboratory. It remains in excellent condition, with no evidence of damage or compromises in the surface of the paper.
SCHOLARSHIP AND AUTHENTICATION: Included with the etching will be two researched appraisals by certified appraisers, Park West Galleries and independent appraisaser, Michelle Hayden. The lowest of the appraised values is $43,000 for this fine work of art. Complete copies of the research and appraisals will be included with the etching.
PAYMENT & SHIPPING (We Ship Internationally): We gladly accept your personal check, cashier's check, US Postal Money Orders or PayPal (check clearance time applies from buyers not known to us). Buyer pays shipping costs.
